According to Variety, the two sides are discussing Kimmel’s future beyond the 2026-27 season, with the possibility of keeping the veteran host behind the desk while operating with a smaller budget. Variety reports that Kimmel and Disney executives are currently discussing whether Jimmy Kimmel Live! will continue after the new TV season, although neither Disney nor Kimmel’s representatives commented on the talks. James Dixon, who represents Kimmel as well as Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, also represents several of the most recognizable names in the modern late-night circuit. The negotiations arrive after Kimmel survived his own extraordinary confrontation with ABC in 2025, when the network temporarily suspended his show amid political fallout, making the possibility of another renewal feel considerably more consequential than a routine contract discussion.

There is an especially telling detail in the timing: Kimmel recently revealed that an interview with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico would bypass ABC’s broadcast network and appear on YouTube because of concerns over FCC pressure on the network’s affiliates.
