A24 is making some serious noise at the American Film Market (AFM) by bringing along its biggest swing yet, Elden Ring, which has now become the biggest movie offering in the history of the market. For years, the prospect of translating FromSoftware’s sprawling fantasy epic into live-action felt like an impossible mountain to climb, bogged down by the sheer narrative scale and the daunting challenge of retaining the game’s mythic weight without compromising its artistic integrity. Yet, through sheer auteur-driven persistence and a staggering financial commitment, Alex Garland and A24 managed to turn the tide.
Emerging from years of speculative hurdles into a full-scale production, the ambitious project is now making history as it rolls into the American Film Market.
Elden Ring becomes AFM’s biggest movie on offer
According to Deadline, the upcoming cinematic translation of the critically acclaimed role-playing phenomenon, Elden Ring, is set to shatter industry records as it arrives at the American Film Market. Carrying a staggering production budget estimated between $175 million and $200 million, positioning it comfortably above past market heavyweights like franchise expansions of The Hunger Games, the feature represents an unprecedented financial gamble for an independent package.
Penned and helmed by visionary filmmaker Alex Garland, the fantasy epic is currently moving through post-production while generating a massive industry buzz. Sensing the tidal wave of momentum, Amazon MGM has moved aggressively to secure a major stake, pre-empting the broader competitive field by locking down expansive international Pay-1 streaming rights.

Industry insiders estimate the high-value pact commands a multi-million-dollar price tag across numerous global territories, with whispers suggesting the collaboration could even branch into interactive promotional tie-ins via live-streaming giant Twitch, as reported by Deadline. With A24 fully financing the heavy-hitting production, aligning with a major studio partner was a financial necessity at this scale.
A24 has left no stone unturned in ensuring that the project gets the best in the business both in front and behind the camera.
The star-studded cast and crew of Elden Ring
Boasting an elite ensemble cast featuring Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, and Nick Offerman, Elden Ring is equally stacked behind the camera. Director Alex Garland has assembled an industry-titan crew including costume designer Jenny Beavan, hair and makeup artist Paul Gooch, production designers Mark Digby and Michelle Day, and cinematographer David J. Thompson.

Having wrapped principal photography over the summer, the production is currently knee-deep in visual effects work with Industrial Light & Magic, eyeing a grand theatrical and IMAX rollout in March 2028. It will be interesting to see how A24’s $200 million gamble pans out once it releases on the big screen.
