A24 may be the little studio that could, but the 2026 summer box office has made that underdog look remarkably mighty. The domestic market is on track to cross $10 billion for the first time since 2019, with revenue up roughly 20% from last year, and it seems that A24 is having more fun. The entertainment company has now officially claimed more summer market share than Warner Bros. and Paramount.

That makes A24’s showing particularly striking, given how much smaller and more indie-minded the company is than those legacy Hollywood giants.

A24 has turned its indie reputation into serious summer box-office muscle, finishing the 2026 season with roughly 5.5% of the domestic market and $237 million in revenue. Warner Bros. landed around 5%, while Paramount settled near 4.5%. The difference may look modest, but A24 managed it with a far smaller theatrical footprint.

The biggest engine behind A24’s surge was Backrooms, which hauled an impressive $197.5 million domestically and accounted for the overwhelming majority of the distributor’s summer revenue. That single horror phenomenon gave A24 the kind of commercial ammunition usually associated with Hollywood’s biggest studios. Warner Bros. and Paramount simply could not match that momentum.

The wider picture makes A24’s climb even more striking. Universal Pictures, Disney, and Sony still controlled roughly 70% of the domestic market combined, leaving A24 nowhere near the industry's top tier. Yet the indie distributor still slipped past Warner Bros. and Paramount, turning a summer powered by one breakout hit into a rather extraordinary box-office statement.

Besides Tom Holland possibly stepping into the shoes of John F. Kennedy for A24, this latest record is just another feather in the indie darling’s increasingly crowded cap.

A24 is starting to look more like A26

A24’s summer success is hardly a one-hit wonder, either. The Drama brought in about $132.5 million globally, while Tony earned strong reviews; Primetime premiered in the Golden Lion competition at Venice with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score, and Eternity later reached No. 1 on Apple TV+ in 86 countries.

That winning streak has helped A24 become something rarer than a successful distributor: a genuine consumer brand. More than half of audiences surveyed in 2026 reportedly chose A24 films because they trusted the company name, giving the indie studio something franchise-heavy competitors spend billions trying to build, a built-in audience loyalty.
