James Bond has survived exploding lairs, murderous henchmen, and perfectly shaken martinis. Yet the women sharing his adventures have often delivered the franchise's sharpest plot twists. With Amazon MGM steering 007's next chapter and Denis Villeneuve occupying the director's chair, Hollywood's casting radar is spinning like a malfunctioning Q Branch gadget.
Daniel Craig's successor remains classified, while casting his next leading lady remains another guessing game. Now Sydney Sweeney has secured an intriguing recommendation from someone who faced Sean Connery's Bond across the battlefield.
Stirring yet another round of feverish speculation.
Trina Parks backs Sydney Sweeney for the next Bond girl
Trina Parks, who broke ground as the franchise's first Black Bond girl, played assassin Thumper in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever. Speaking to The Telegraph, she said.
"Sydney would do a wonderful job," praising her versatility and confidence. Parks admired Sweeney's Hollywood classic kind of style and poise, a natural fit beside Aston Martins and elaborate villains.

However, her endorsement went beyond glamour. She argued that modern Bond films need women with agency and control over their sexuality, capable of standing their ground opposite the legendary spy. She believes Bond's outdated romantic formula belongs in the archives.
According to The Telegraph, a rumored shortlist also features Zendaya, Margaret Qualley, Michelle Randolph, and Nathalie Emmanuel. Villeneuve and casting director Nina Gold are reportedly considering actresses, although Amazon MGM has announced no female lead.
While MI6 ponders that playful challenge, Sweeney has infiltrated a different elite society, armed with ambition instead of spy gadgets.
The Custom of the Country gives Sweeney a ruthless new character
Forget laser watches and secret dossiers, Sydney Sweeney's next battlefield involves New York high society, where a dinner invitation can become a strategic operation, with every introduction carrying its own hidden agenda. In The Custom of the Country, she plays Undine Spragg, Edith Wharton's fiercely ambitious Midwestern social climber, whose climb toward wealth creates romantic complications and social wreckage.

Josie Rourke, director of Mary Queen of Scots, adapted Wharton's 1913 novel and directs the film. Leo Woodall stars alongside Sweeney, with Dominic West, Matthew Goode, Rose Leslie, Martha Plimpton, Miranda Richardson, Hugh Dancy, Louis Garrel, and Ian Hart among the ensemble.
Studiocanal and Charles Finch's Rabbit's Foot Films are backing the production, with Sweeney also serving as producer. Cameras began rolling in Portugal in March 2026, and the project has reached post-production. A 2027 release is expected, though no official date has been announced.
Would Sweeney make a compelling Bond girl, or should she commandeer 007's Aston Martin herself? Let us know in the comments.
