A moment of sheer bliss ensued for avid book enthusiasts when news reverberated
that the cinematic adaptation would faithfully preserve the essence of the
original story. Centered around the resilient protagonist, Lily Bloom, a florist
grappling with the haunting shadows of her abusive past involving her father.
This riveting narrative unravels against the backdrop of her complex romantic
entanglements with Ryle, her current love interest, and Atlas, her erstwhile
flame.

Surely, Blake Lively fans might be overjoyed to see her play Lily Bloom, but her
casting faced a certain backlash.

CASTING OPPOSITION FOR IT ENDS WITH US

The selection of both Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively as cast members garnered
considerable backlash. Primarily stemming from concerns regarding their
suitability to portray the characters of Lily and Ryle. Fans expressed their
opposition, citing the significant age disparity between the actors and the
characters as a primary factor. The novel portrays Lily as 23 years old and Ryle
as 30 years old. This makes Lively’s age, which is over 10 years older than the
character, a notable point of contention.

Subsequently, author Colleen Hoover gave clarification on the casting
controversy of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

She admitted that an oversight occurred, stemming from her own youthful
perspective at the time of writing. Regrettably, she had not fully grasped the
requisite age for someone to become a neurosurgeon. A role that Ryle portrays in
the story. As a deliberate correction, the filmmakers chose to cast older actors
to embody the characters. Rectifying the oversight and ensuring a more accurate
representation on screen.
