Marvel co-stars and Hollywood besties Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back together, but not for any high-stakes superhero action or a buddy comedy, but for a sports documentary on Disney+. The Reynolds-Jackman bromance is known worldwide for its mock-feuds and the constant social media pranks and back-and-forths that have become a hallmark of their friendship over the years. However, this duo has also given some of the most entertaining collaborations, the most recent example of which is Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Now they have once again joined forces for an exciting sports documentary on Disney+.

After blowing everyone’s mind in the infectiously hilarious and action-packed Deadpool & Wolverine, the beloved Hollywood duo, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, will feature together in a new sports documentary series on Disney+ that will focus on their roles as co-owners of the Australian sailing team Bonds Flying Roos through the SailGP Championship.

In the documentary series, Australia's fastest sailors, led on the water by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, one of the most decorated sailors in history, will traverse the world to compete against elite rivals while embarking on their renowned owners. A stadium-style competition where identical 50-foot catamarans compete in near-shore circuits at top speeds of 100 km/h characterizes the world racing season. 

“This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP,” Reynolds and Jackman said in a statement.

National teams compete for a $12.8 million prize in the Rolex SailGP Championship, which takes place all around the world at speeds surpassing 60 miles per hour aboard similar high-tech, fast 50-foot foiling catamarans. And this high-speed, high-stakes adventure will soon hit the screens at Disney+.

Besides being the co-owner of the team and the star of the docuseries, Ryan Reynolds will also be sitting at the creative table with several others.

Naturally, Ryan Reynolds has been a regular at Disney documentaries. For the past five seasons, the FX cameras have been following his co-owned Welsh soccer team, Wrexham. Rob Mac, co-chairman of Wrexham and the Welcome to Wrexham executive producer, will also produce the unnamed sailing documentary series under the More Better Productions banner. The sailing documentary series is being produced by Reynolds' Maximum Effort production company, which signed a first-look agreement with 20th Television last year.

Brent Hodge is the director and showrunner of the untitled documentary series for Disney+, which is an Australian original created by Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions in collaboration with SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos team. The new Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman collaboration will only be accessible on Disney+ in other countries and on Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.
