Over the last few years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown several surprises, epic battles against dangerous villains, legendary superheroes, and character journeys. And one of its most exciting elements has been its crossovers, which bring multiple superheroes, from Hulk to Captain America, together on the big screen. Now, the conversation has expanded to more potential crossovers between Marvel’s films and television series.

While these crossovers are promising, a Marvel executive, Brad Winderbaum, has opened up about the need to strike the right balance.

Brad Winderbaum explains balance for Marvel’s movies and TV shows crossover

Brad Winderbaum recently sat down for an interview with Collider. When asked whether Marvel would continue exploring crossovers between its television series and films, the executive revealed that the studio is considering the idea while also striving to strike the right balance. He explained that while such crossovers can be exciting, they can also make the movies and series more complicated for audiences to follow, as they have learned over the past few years.

“It should be a little easier, like the comics, where if you're a fan of Daredevil, you can watch Daredevil, if you're a fan of Visionquest or the Wanda vision Trilogy, you can watch that and if you watch them both you might find some unexpected connections,” he said.

The Marvel executive further explained during the interview that connections between films and television series should be easier for fans to watch. However, he explained that there should be enough connections for viewers who watch both to join the dots and discover the links between them. The studio appears to be gradually building toward more crossovers between its films and TV series. Previous examples include Daredevil’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in Iron Man and SHIELD.

Most recently, Jon Bernthal appeared as The Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day for a very good reason.

Why does The Punisher appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Jon Bernthal, who played the Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, was an exciting addition to the film. His character helped fill the void left by Ned and MJ after Peter Parker asked Doctor Strange to erase him from the memories of everyone who knew him. However, the character’s inclusion also served as a warning, as director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed in an interview with MovieWeb.

"The way that Jon [Bernthal] plays him in our movie is, in a way, a warning to Peter, because he doesn't necessarily want anybody to have the life that he has, and he does, at a point in the movie, tell Peter, 'You don't want my life,' you know, you don't want this existence,’” the director said.

The director added that Bernthal’s character does not want Peter Parker to suffer the same fate as he did. Bernthal previously portrayed the Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil. When it comes to crossovers between television series and films, every superhero appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe carries weight, with each crossover thoughtfully written.
