Sony Pictures has announced that it is developing a film adaptation of the iconic video game Metal Gear Solid. The game follows a secret military mission in which the goal is to locate and destroy a powerful weapon capable of launching nuclear missiles. This is the first time the video game is being adapted for the big screen.
While expectations for the project are high, there also appears to be a slight hiccup. Amid expectations, a few netizens appeared upset with the adaptation. Even before the release, many are calling it a flop and a bad choice.
“Sony will for sure F*** this up,” a fan commented on the post.
It seems that there is a concern about whether Sony Pictures will be able to successfully bring this film to life, given how special the game is to its fandom. As of now, the studio appears to have placed the right people behind the project, including Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who recently had massive success with Final Destination: Bloodlines. The father-son duo Avi Arad and Ari Arad are attached as producers to the project.
Now, Lipovsky and Stein’s involvement also shows Sony Pictures’s faith in them, as they are already attached to several other projects, including the Venom franchise.

The duo’s recent success with Final Destination: Bloodlines further strengthens the expectations for the project. They are also set to produce and direct the original sci-fi concept, The Earthling, alongside Eric Heisserer. If the duo can recreate their magic, the video game adaptation could become a strong example of how video game stories can work well on the big screen.
