'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Is a Heroic “Story That Needs to Be Told,” Claims Bertie Carvel

Fantasy worlds are often defined by chaos, power struggles, and violence, yet the most meaningful stories in the genre are those that challenge these patterns. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms does exactly that by placing humanity and moral strength at the center of its narrative. Rather than chasing spectacle, the story focuses on honor, empathy, and modest ambition.

Bertie Carvel, a cast member of the upcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, recently expressed his appreciation for the same, adding that the effort tells a tale that needs to be told.

Bertie Carvel, who will soon be seen as Prince Baelor Targaryen in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about why the Game of Thrones prequel matters. He began by observing that the world today is in desperate need of love.

Carvel praised George R.R. Martin’s work for balancing cynicism, heroism, and goodness, linking it to the current global political climate and expressing faith that leaders can still do good, while ordinary people have the power to effect change. Merging the fictional and real worlds, he encapsulated it all in a single sentence:

"These are the stories that need to be told. It is an old story, but one we should not stop telling," he said.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, as confirmed by Entertainment Tonight, will premiere its first episode on HBO on Sunday, January 18. The season consists of six episodes, with the following episodes continuing to be released weekly.

Bertie Carvel is joined in the offering by Finn Bennett, Dexter Sol Ansell, Peter Claffey, and more. Carvel, meanwhile, has also been cast for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot.
