The Fast & Furious franchise is taking a much-anticipated turn to television, with Peacock greenlighting a new series. Launched in 2001, this is one of the most popular Hollywood franchises that has raked in more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office over the past two decades. The rivalries, friendships, and street racing even expanded with an exciting spin–off, Hobbs & Shaw, in 2019.
And now, the family will be taking its passion for speed to television for a new experience.
Fast and Furious will get a TV series treatment
As reported by Deadline, Peacock has greenlit the first-ever TV series based on the Fast & Furious franchise. The series will be written by Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, who will also serve as showrunners. Vin Diesel, who stars in the franchise movies, announced the series during NBCUniversal’s Upfront event in May this year.
Diesel explained that fans have long wanted the franchise to explore stories set in the world of street racing and expand into television. He had previously been hesitant to bring Fast & Furious to the small screen. However, he changed his mind after Universal Studios chief Donna Langley took charge of NBCUniversal’s television operations.

“That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space,” he said.
There is no update on whether the series will get more than one season. For now, only the first season has been announced, with Vin Diesel serving as an executive producer. The writers and showrunners, Daniels and Coleman, will also executive-produce the series, which is set to premiere in 2028, as reported by Deadline.
2028 might ring a bell for fans already waiting for a new installment in the franchise that year.
Fast & Furious will get a new movie in 2028
Before the new series, Vin Diesel had announced that the franchise would return with a new movie. This will be the franchise's eleventh and final movie. Titled Fast Forever, the movie is expected to be released in theaters on March 17, 2028. Louis Leterrier, who directed the last film, Fast X, in 2023, will return to helm the upcoming movie.

With Diesel set to reprise his role and the massive cliffhanger from the last film, there is already much hype for the final installment. Meanwhile, if the newly announced series were to get future seasons, the franchise could expand into television. However, as of now, fans will have to eagerly look forward to 2028.
