Amid the divisive ending and countless fan theories, Millie Bobby Brown has finally broken her silence on Eleven's fate, even revealing who truly knows the truth. In the finale of Stranger Things, Eleven stays behind in the collapsing Upside Down to ensure the dimension is destroyed and the gates are sealed. The cast of Stranger Things was just as much in the dark about Eleven's fate as the fans. Millie Bobby Brown, who played the character, revealed that only she and the Duffer Brothers know what really happened to Eleven, but she is not allowed to reveal it. However, she refused to confirm or deny any of the fan theories surrounding Eleven's fate.
“No one else knows. It’s just us three. And what we do with that information, it’ll be up to them," she told Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Meanwhile, Brown's co-stars believe that Eleven is dead. Speaking to Variety, David Harbour said there was no way Eleven survived, adding that it had been obvious from the beginning. Sadie Sink shared the same during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying she also believes Eleven may not have made it. However, during Brown's appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she shared that hope might be the best way to say goodbye to both the character and the show.
“It’s so rude of them. There’s something to it, surely. You guys are projecting! It’s like, ‘Hey guys, we get it. You want me dead!’ But I was like, ‘Believe!’ Let’s have some hope in here," she said.
Now, Brown may know the real fate of Eleven in Stranger Things, but that did not make it easy for her to say goodbye to the character and the show.
Millie Bobby Brown recalled the tough time after the end of Stranger Things
Millie Bobby Brown did not hesitate to admit that she fell into a slump after Stranger Things ended. She struggled in January this year, and during that difficult period, she reconnected with her co-stars. Brown revealed that she texted them to make sure there was no tension between them, as she wanted to ensure they would remain friends.
‘It’s been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You’re my sibling.’ And then I was on the beach, it was beautiful, and I just sat there crying. It was a very hard time for me," she said on Happy Sad Confused podcast.
