Meghan Markle Bares Her Postpartum Health Issues to the World; Shares Her "huge medical scares" in Latest Podcast

Besides being the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is also a very influential figure. Before her royal marriage to Prince Harry, she had been active in nonprofit work, dedicating her time and energy towards social causes. After her marriage, she has gained access to a global platform where she can express her views and shed light on critical issues related to women's health that otherwise do not get much exposure. 

 In the recent episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, she reveals to the world some big health issues she suffered post-pregnancy, which other mothers with similar experiences could also relate to.

Meghan Markle reveals a difficult time in her life following childbirth

Sitting down for a discussion on the latest episode of her podcast with her friend and Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, Meghan Markle revealed that both have suffered from postpartum preeclampsia. She revealed that they were still trying to juggle all the things, and the world did not know that they were suffering in silence. “And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people—mostly for your children—but those things are huge medical scares.”

Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare disease that causes a fatal condition that occurs when high blood pressure and excessive levels of protein are present in the urine. Though both the ladies did not know each other at the time, they both had similar experiences with postpartum and described it as “so rare and so scary.” Postpartum preeclampsia occurs when the expecting mother has high blood pressure during her pregnancy, especially after 20 weeks, also called gestational hypertension.

Meghan Markle is a mother to two children: five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet, both of whom she adores. However, the time following the childbirth sure has been a challenge for her, and her bringing it up in her ongoing podcast is an act of raising awareness about the delicate issue. On the work front, she has her hands full with multiple ventures.

After her Netflix show release, With Love, Meghan, the Duchess has just relaunched her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which witnessed phenomenal success as it was sold out within an hour of its launch. Though there have been some criticisms about these moves, to which Meghan Markle gave a stern reply through a profile done by The New York Times on her. In it, she explained how much she loves to work and has been doing so since she was 13 years old.

With her latest move of public acknowledgement of her health issue, Meghan Markle has bravely fought the taboo and secrecy around a new mother's health problems and has set an example of strength. Her sharing it with the world will also boost the morale of other women suffering from this unfortunate condition.
