Jennifer Lopez plays the daughter of Edward James Olmos on screen once again in her new movie. The two previously played father-daughter duo in the 1997 biopic Selena. The film earned them critical acclaim, major success, and recognition for their performances. Since then, both have built their own careers, with Olmos even earning an Oscar nomination for his performance in Stand and Deliver. 

Now, decades later, they reunited to play father and daughter again in a new rom-com, and both were thrilled about the opportunity.

Both Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos were in attendance at Netflix's Office Romance premiere with Entertainment Tonight, where they reflected on their long history of playing father and daughter. Lopez shared that while standing together on the red carpet, she was reminded of their Selena days during a cast photo moment. When she reminded Olmos about the memory, it seemed the actor had not forgotten it.

"I was standing with him, and I remember taking the cast photo with Selena and I said, ‘Oh my God, do you remember when we did this years ago?’ and he goes ‘I remember it well!'"

"He’s like, ‘I’m so proud to be here with you.’ I said, ‘I love you so much, thank you,'" Lopez fondly recalled the wholesome exchange with her onscreen father. 

While Lopez played Selena in the film of the same name, Edward James Olmos portrayed her father, Abraham Quintanilla. The movie earned both actors recognition, including American Latino Media Arts Award nominations. Now, the two are reuniting in Office Romance, a Netflix romantic comedy, with Lopez expressing excitement about working with Olmos again.

Their on-screen father-daughter dynamic remains unchanged from Selena, though their new project shifts them into a lighter, romantic-comedy setting.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Office Romance follows the actress as Jackie, the powerful and disciplined CEO of an airline company, Air Cruz. She has a strict anti-fraternization policy for all employees. However, she begins to struggle with her own rule when a charming new lawyer, Daniel Blanchflower, joins the team. And that begins a secret office affair. 

Brett Goldstein, who also wrote the script, stars as Daniel in the film. Amy Sedaris, Betty Gilpin, and Zuhdi Boueri are also part of the cast. Arriving on Netflix on June 5, 2026, the movie is set to bring tension, humour, and heart.

Nearly three decades after sharing the screen, Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos’ reunion for Office Romance adds a nostalgic full-circle moment for longtime fans of their unforgettable on-screen bond.
