It may be a love spell, but the 1998 cult classic Practical Magic still holds a powerful charm over people. Although witchy films like Practical Magic, The Craft, The Witches, and Hocus Pocus did not find the right audience at the time of their release, they have since become beloved cult classics. With newer films like Forbidden Fruits taking the spotlight, these older favorites continue to find new love and appreciation.

And with recent chatter about a Practical Magic sequel, it is no surprise there is a growing curiosity about how to stream the original movie and whether it is available on Netflix.

Unfortunately, Netflix does not currently have Practical Magic on its streaming platform. However, the film, which is based on the popular novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman, can be watched online without any need for potions or witchcraft. It is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

Famous for bringing together the iconic duo of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, the film follows a familiar trope of curses and magic while also exploring themes of sisterhood and romance. It revolves around two witch sisters, Sally and Gillian Owens, who come from a family burdened by a deadly curse, and that is any man who falls in love with an Owens woman is doomed to die. Along with the weight of this curse and society’s prejudice, the two also struggle when Sally accidentally kills Gillian’s abusive boyfriend.

So, for those looking for something spooky yet romantic, this 1998 classic is well worth a watch, and preferably before a potential sequel arrives this Halloween.

Practical Magic 2 has a release date

The Owens sisters are set to return with a sequel to Practical Magic, which is expected to arrive on September 11, 2026, as revealed by Warner Bros. While Alice Hoffman’s prequel novel adaptation never materialized, this sequel brings the same cursed line of witches back, now facing new challenges. The trailer is already out, hinting at the same dark, mysterious atmosphere that was present in the original.

With the return of the Owens family, both Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, who starred in the original film, are expected to reprise their roles, along with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest. Joey King, Xolo Maridueña, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, and Solly McLeod are also part of the cast. What remains to be seen is whether the beloved classic can rekindle its magic and cast an even stronger spell this time around.
