The animated adaptation of Animal Farm boasts a tremendous voice cast, mixing renowned veterans and popular young stars to embody the barnyard revolutionaries. The casting of Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things), who voices the piglet Lucky, is a key creative choice, positioning a beloved youthful figure at the center of the drama.
Lucky is a new, original character in the film, designed to serve as a naive audience surrogate caught between the rival pig factions. The star power continues with Seth Rogen lending his voice to the despotic pig Napoleon, and Kieran Culkin portraying his groveling lackey, Squealer.
Apart from Gaten Matarazzo(Stranger Things), the ensemble includes industry giants such as Glenn Close, Woody Harrelson, Steve Buscemi, Laverne Cox, Jim Parsons, Kathleen Turner, and Iman Vellani. Director Andy Serkis himself voices the neglectful human farmer, Mr. Jones.
The director believes Orwell’s message is more vital than ever in an era defined by propaganda and inequality.
Plot, creative team, and release date of Animal Farm
Andy Serkis’ vision, based on George Orwell’s 1945 novella, is described as a CG-animated drama with comedic elements, adapted by screenwriter Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets).
The plot maintains the core elements of the book: the farm animals successfully revolt against their human owner, only for their dream of equality to be betrayed as the power-hungry pigs establish a new, even more brutal dictatorship.

According to Variety, Serkis stated that the story’s themes of "power, propaganda, and inequality" feel acutely relevant today. The film, which utilizes performance capture technology to ground the animation in live-action techniques, is a long-awaited passion project for Serkis. The movie already premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 9, 2025.
Following its festival run, the US theatrical release is scheduled for May 1, 2026, with distribution handled by Angel. But if waiting seems difficult, there are several Christmas animated movies to fill the void until Animal Farm releases.
