Schmigadoon! won big at the Tony Awards event, making history for Apple TV. The show originally began as a streaming series on Apple TV+ and found success across its first two seasons before being canceled. However, it found new life beyond the small screen through a Broadway musical adaptation, which went on to become a major success.
Now, Schmigadoon! has achieved a major victory for Apple TV, further strengthening the platform's position in the competition with its streaming rivals like Netflix.

Schmigadoon! won Best Musical at this year's Tony Awards event, helping Apple TV complete its EGOT journey with wins across the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. This win also gave Apple TV an edge over Netflix. While Netflix took 12 years to secure an EGOT milestone, completing it with a Tony win for Stranger Things: The First Shadow in 2025, Apple TV accomplished the feat in nearly six years after its launch in 2019.
It first gained an edge in the race when Billy Crudup won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for The Morning Show in 2022. In the years that followed, Apple TV+ continued adding to its Emmy tally thanks to acclaimed shows such as Ted Lasso and The Studio. The streamer also earned an Oscar when CODA won Best Picture in 2022. In 2026, the soundtrack for F1 brought Apple TV+ a Grammy after Chris Stapleton won Best Country Solo Performance for the song 'Bad As I Used to Be.' The media giant shows no signs of slowing down.
While Schmigadoon! was canceled as a television series by Apple TV+, the move ultimately gave the project a chance to flourish on the Broadway stage, where it went on to achieve Tony-winning success.
Christine Schwarzman thanked Apple TV for Schmigadoon!’ big win
Schmigadoon! entered the Tony Awards with 12 nominations and ultimately took home four wins. In addition to winning Best Musical, the production also earned awards for Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations. During her acceptance speech, producer Christine Schwarzman thanked Apple TV+ for giving the project its initial platform. She also joked about the series' cancellation, noting that the decision ultimately paved the way for the show's successful transformation from a streaming series into an award-winning Broadway musical.

“I think I should start by thanking Apple TV for canceling the third season of Schmigadoon the TV show because without them we couldn’t have picked it up and ran with it,” Schwarzman said during the acceptance speech.
The victory is also a significant achievement for Lorne Michaels, marking his second Tony Award win. He previously won as a producer of Leopoldstadt, which took home Best Play in 2022. While Schmigadoon! found major success after its cancellation, Apple TV+ still has several high-profile projects in development that could help the streamer add to its growing awards legacy. With a strong lineup of acclaimed series and films, Apple TV+ appears well-positioned to set new milestones in the years ahead.
