Goldene Emmy Awards - Der bedeutendste Fernsehpreis der USA!

Blockbusters such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey may have stolen cinema’s thunder in 2026, but television has been quietly plotting its own takeover. The streaming platform saga was kept alive through popular shows such as Lanterns, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Little House on the Prairie, The Pitt, and Landman, and more. All have contributed to HBO’s 122 and Netflix’s 111 nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Put it all in perspective, and cinema and streaming are no longer competing for the spotlight; they are happily sharing it.

HBO has apparently decided that one Emmy nomination was nowhere near enough. The Pitt storms ahead with 25 nominations, Hacks follows with 24 for its record-breaking final season, and DTF St. Louis contributes 13 more. With 122 nominations overall, HBO has turned the 2026 Emmy scoreboard into something resembling a personal stationery collection.

Netflix, meanwhile, is playing the clever underdog rather than the desperate runner-up. Its 111 nominations include a startling 44 from the Limited Series field, where BEEF Season 2 collected 16 and The Beast in Me secured nine. It may be 11 nominations behind HBO, but Netflix has certainly found its favorite corner of the Emmy party.

The streamer also refuses to surrender the drama conversation as per the 78th Primetime Emmy Award nominations list. The Diplomat picked up an Outstanding Drama Series nomination and seven individual nods, including acting recognition for Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell. Then there is Ryan Murphy’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which added seven nominations of its own, including a Lead Actor nod for Charlie Hunnam.

The Lead Actress race makes the rivalry especially entertaining, with HBO claiming Carrie Coon and Zendaya, who could make history with a win alongside others, while Netflix sends Keri Russell into battle. Two of the five nominees therefore belong to HBO, giving the network a particularly imposing presence. Netflix may be trailing numerically, but its contenders are making certain nobody forgets its name.

Long Before 'The Odyssey', Anne Hathaway Played Penelope and Won an Emmy for It

The Pitt just stormed ahead with 25 Emmy nominations, so naturally, we need to know what is in the water at that hospital.

Why The Pitt is leading the 2026 Emmy Awards conversation

The Pitt has become such a formidable Emmy contender because its sophomore season deepened everything that made the medical drama compelling in the first place. Rather than relying solely on the momentum of its breakout debut, the series tackled healthcare strain, systemic pressures, and emotionally demanding cases with greater urgency, giving its storytelling genuine dramatic weight. That strength extends to the performances, with Noah Wyle anchoring an ensemble whose individual work has received substantial recognition across the acting categories.

The series has also earned attention for its direction and technical craftsmanship, showing that its appeal is not confined to one star or storyline. After establishing itself as the reigning Outstanding Drama Series winner, The Pitt has turned early acclaim into sustained awards-season authority, while also helping HBO in helming the nominations throne.
