To celebrate her track on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, Taylor Swift posted a rare childhood video on X and Instagram on Friday, June 5. The sweet home video features a 5-year-old Swift dancing enthusiastically while sporting a denim skirt, a white top with red boots printed on it, cowboy boots, and a matching cowboy hat. Swift penned under the post that this specific track drew heavy inspiration from Jessie, the spirited cowgirl character who captured hearts worldwide.
“Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a Toy Story kid from the age of 5 till now is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond,” she wrote. Collaborating once again with producer Jack Antonoff, the song represents a highly anticipated homecoming to the acoustic storytelling that defined her early career.
"Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," Taylor Swift shared regarding the creation process. Swift also wrote about how this track from Toy Story 5, 'I Knew It, I Knew You,' has been officially released everywhere. It was written with immense adoration for these characters, by whom audiences were made to laugh, taught valuable lessons, and inspired to think outside the backyard throughout childhood.
The emotional depth of this new song directly mirrors the long, dramatic history of the character Jessie, who inspired it.
The evolution of a brave cowgirl, Jessie
First introduced in Toy Story 2 as part of a fictional 1950s television show, Jessie faced severe heartbreak when her original owner, Emily, outgrew her. This devastating abandonment left the red-headed puppet with intense claustrophobia before she eventually found a loving, supportive family in Andy's room. Throughout Toy Story 3, she fought against the threat of being discarded as Andy prepared for college.
After surviving a harrowing ordeal at a hostile daycare and an incinerator, she secured a safe, permanent home when Andy gifted his collection to a young girl named Bonnie. By the conclusion of Toy Story 4, Woody made the choice to live as a free toy alongside Bo Peep. In a passing-of-the-torch moment, he handed his sheriff's badge to Jessie, officially cementing her status as the group's leader. Toy Story 5 is scheduled to be released in theatres on June 19, 2026.

The fifth installment in Disney and Pixar's classic animated franchise addresses a modern dilemma between toys and technology. The plot follows young Bonnie as she becomes completely obsessed with a sleek, smart tablet device named Lilypad. The film places a deep emotional focus on the cowgirl doll, Jessie, exploring the flashbacks of her past and an emotional reconciliation storyline involving her original owner, Emily.
The newly unveiled throwback clip feels especially fitting as Toy Story 5 prepares to revisit the franchise’s emotional roots through Jessie’s story. Much like the film itself, Swift’s country-era callback taps into a sense of nostalgia, celebrating the past while introducing a new chapter for audiences.
