From her iconic songs featured in films to shaping pop culture conversations, Swift is clearly much bigger than just a music star. And now, her impact will show up on screen in a new way.

While a biopic is not in the conversation just yet, she has already become an inspiration for a character. Anne Hathaway’s upcoming film Mother Mary is said to take several cues from the Grammy-winning artist’s career.

Anne Hathaway is all set to return to theatres this April with her new film Mother Mary, which focuses on a fictional pop star. And for the character, writer-director David Lowery revealed that they drew inspiration from Taylor Swift's career. At the same time, they were also inspired by Lady Gaga.

“I would often would be like, ‘Imagine Taylor Swift in ten or 15 years — that’s sort of who this character could be,’” Lowery told Empire.

Both David Lowery and Anne Hathaway even attended Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour in Europe to understand her larger-than-life presence in the music world. Lowery also revealed Hathaway’s sweet gesture of giving him a beaded bracelet. Apart from shaping the character, Swift also became a creative playbook for Mother Mary, which revolves around a pop star.

Lowery revealed that they closely studied her 'Reputation' concert film, using it as a blueprint to design their own concert sequences. They watched it to understand the cost of visual effects. While they had much inspiration and help from Taylor Swift, the role was not an easy one.

Anne Hathaway talks about her efforts for Mother Mary

Anne Hathaway had a tough time stepping into the shoes of a pop star for her role as Mary. She described the role as transformative, admitting she had to let go of her ego to do justice to the character. In an interview with Vogue, Hathaway detailed the intense preparation and effort that went into bringing this role to life.

“I had to submit to being a beginner,” she told Vogue. “The humility of that — showing up every day knowing you’re going to suck. And it has to be okay. You’re not ‘bad.’ You’re just a beginner.”
