Carrie Coon wants Taylor Swift to play Bertha Russell’s nemesis on HBO’s The Gilded Age. Coon is not alone in this campaign, since Cynthia Nixon and Morgan Spector also joined the brainstorm with ideas of their own. Swift has been a fan of the series for quite a while, which gives the cast reasons to dream big. Season 4 is right around the corner, and the manifesting has officially begun.
While cameos usually begin with a studio call, this one began with a cast writing the character sheet in advance.

Carrie Coon told Extra TV that Taylor Swift should play a rival to Bertha, written as an upper-crust socialite. The pitch came at a New York event for The Gilded Age’s fourth season, where the cast promised to answer if Swift ever calls.
"You know, Bertha adjacent. Maybe like Enid Winterton’s cousin," Coon explained the idea.
She then added, “Taylor is the nemesis. I think she should be a nemesis, yeah.”

Extra TV clips shared on X show Cynthia Nixon pledging to help make the cameo happen, with Morgan Spector cheering the idea on. Other suggestions floated on the carpet included a singer performing at Oscar and Enid’s new salons, or a role in Marian’s world. The cast also raised Swift’s Bertha impression on Late Night, so the audition tape already exists. No casting has been confirmed, and Season 4 premieres November 1, 2026.
While the cast waits for Swift to pick up, she has already turned up on a very different stage.
Taylor Swift crashes a Saturday Night Live monologue
Taylor Swift made her most recent cameo on Saturday Night Live on October 3, in the second episode of Season 52. Dakota Johnson was hosting for the third time, promoting her film Verity, when she introduced Swift as her literal therapist during a monologue about dating musicians. Swift rejected the title, pointing out that Johnson turns up once a week with an empty wine bottle and asks whether Swift wants some.

The cameo was no surprise, since Swift hid a Saturday Night Live Easter egg in her Law & Order: SVU sketch at the mid-September Emmys. Johnson also appeared alongside Colin Farrell in Swift’s self-directed 'Patient Zero' music video, which debuted at the VMAs on September 27, 2026. Swift has now popped up in Johnson’s world, and Johnson in hers, within a single month. If Swift can crash a monologue on live television without warning, The Gilded Age drawing room hardly stands a chance.
