Opera Legend Andrea Bocelli Shows Mature Calmness, Invites Timothée Chalamet to His Concert to Understand the Artform

It does not seem that Timothée Chalamet has lost 14 cents in viewership, but he has certainly received plenty of invitations this year ahead of the Oscars. The Marty Supreme actor recently stirred up a hornet's nest after calling ballet and opera dying art forms, drawing criticism from artists and performers across the classical arts world and beyond.

While several major ballet and opera organizations responded with grace rather than backlash, inviting him to the shows, legendary Italian opera tenor and singer-songwriter Andrea Bocelli has now offered to help the actor reconsider his belief.

The legendary Andrea Bocelli was surprised to hear Timothée Chalamet’s comment on ballet and opera during the Variety & CNN Town Hall. In his interview with PEOPLE, he explained that people often stay away from art forms they have not truly experienced, further adding that opera and ballet have survived for centuries because they still speak to the human heart. He also expressed hope that Chalamet might one day see their beauty for himself, even inviting the actor to attend one of his concerts.

“I am convinced that a sensitive performer like Timothée, who understands the power of emotions, may one day discover that opera and dance draw from that very same source,” he said.

“Should he ever be curious, I would be happy to welcome him as a guest at one of my concerts,” he added.

That response shows the confidence and dedication to the art from one of the finest opera singers of this generation. Known for albums like 'Romanza' and 'Sacred Arias', Bocelli has become one of the most successful crossover performers. While Bocelli's response to Chalamet's comments has been nothing less than calm, he has been at the center of backlash from members of the ballet and opera organizations around the world.

They, too, offered to help the actor rethink his views on the centuries-old art form and why people still care about it, though many did so in a humorous way.

Timothée Chalamet receives several invitations to visit shows

While many, such as Doja Cat, criticized Timothée Chalamet for his comment on ballet and opera, others turned the moment into a hilarious marketing trend. The Seattle Opera recently added ‘Timothée’ as a discount code for their production of Carmen, even inviting the actor to use it himself and attend the show. At the same time, the English National Opera claimed that their plays still draw thousands of viewers and went as far as offering Chalamet free tickets to watch one.

The Royal Ballet & Opera also joined the conversation, encouraging the actor to visit one of their shows. With the Academy Awards approaching, Timothée Chalamet is unlikely to accept the invitations just yet. But with invitations from legends like Andrea Bocelli, could the actor eventually be convinced to visit one?
