According to De Volkskrant, Arnhem Mayor Ahmed Marcouch has officially invited rapper Kanye West to visit the National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam on Sunday. The proposed visit would take place during the single rest day between his two heavily contested Dutch concerts. Local leaders hope this public gesture will encourage the artist to take accountability for his past rhetoric.
According to the mayor, West can make "a statement for a million-strong audience. A statement against antisemitism."
According to a spokesperson, the mayor suggested that West could also lay a wreath at the National Holocaust Memorial alongside the Chief Rabbi. With such a visit, West would make a statement to an audience of millions against antisemitism. The official proposal has been submitted to the concert organizer, but no response has been received.
The artist remains highly controversial globally due to a series of antisemitic and pro-Nazi statements made in recent years. Because of these remarks, demonstrations are expected outside the stadium during the Saturday evening performance.
Legal battles have simultaneously erupted in the background as organizations attempt to halt the events.
Court ruling and public backlash of Kanye West
According to The Associated Press, an Amsterdam judge recently rejected an emergency appeal by a Jewish organization to block the two upcoming performances. The court ruled that there were no indications that his presence would lead to concrete public order dangers. This legal decision officially cleared the path for the music shows to proceed as scheduled.
The Central Jewish Council filed the lawsuit, arguing that Kanye West should be banned for voicing admiration for Adolf Hitler. Organization chair Chanan Hertzberger expressed deep disappointment, stating that the decision creates a feeling that antisemitism is acceptable.
“The feeling we are getting is that it is okay if you are antisemitic,” Chanan Hertzberger told The Associated Press. Government officials agreed the remarks were reprehensible but found no legal basis for a ban.

“There are no indications that West’s presence in the coming days will lead to concrete public order dangers,” the court said in a statement. Dutch lawmakers initially supported a motion to bar Kanye West from entering the country entirely. Now, the focus has shifted back to the mayoral invitation to the Holocaust Museum as a vital counterweight to the events.
