Dua Lipa Join’s A24’s Highschool Drama ‘Peaked’, Fans Go Bonkers Over New Casting

Dua Lipa has never kept her lane a singular pathway to success. In between headlining festivals and engineering era-defining rollouts, she has been quietly building a second identity, hosting At Your Service, curating her Service95 book club like a downtown lit girl, and holding her own in longform conversations with authors. Acting has slipped into that mix almost casually, first as a hyper-stylized cameo in Barbie, then stepping deeper into studio spectacle with Argylle.

But this next move, her entry into the A24 orbit does not read like casual at all.

As first reported by Deadline, A24’s Peaked has officially tapped Dua Lipa for a role, marking her first collaboration with the studio that is basically synonymous with millennial auteur-core. Details around her character are still locked, but the framework is already doing a lot of work. Directed by Molly Gordon and written by Allie Levitan, the film tracks two former high school apex predators attempting to resurrect their social dominance at a 10-year reunion, a premise that feels like Romy and Michele filtered through soft-focus existential dread.

The ensemble is stacked in a way that feels very intentionally chaotic: Emma Mackey, Connor Storrie, Laura Dern, Simone Ashley, Levon Hawke, Mitra Jouhari, Gabby Windey, Amy Sedaris, Owen Thiele, Jaya Harper, Emil Wakim, and Alex Consani. A24 is backing the project alongside producers David Hinojosa, Zach Nutman, and Gordon, with Levitan executive producing. Cameras are set to roll by April 2026, which means this is happening fast.

And almost immediately, the discourse followed. Not just excitement, but a kind of hyper-specific curiosity: what does Lipa look like in an A24-coded high school dramedy? Especially when A24 is the biggest indie label out there, with multiple projects underway for 2026.

Dua Lipa’s A24 casting triggers full-fledged pop culture frenzy in fans

To understand the scale of the reaction, one ought to zoom out. Dua Lipa is not just a chart fixture; she is one of the most consistently visible pop figures of the last decade. Since her 2017 breakout, powered by hits like ‘New Rules’, she has maintained a kind of cultural omnipresence that extends far beyond music. And fans? They are not handling it calmly.

Across the noise, one thing is clear: the excitement is not ironic or tentative. It is a full-volume belief.

If Peaked lands the way fans think it might, this would not just be another line on Dua Lipa’s résumé; it would be the moment that locks her into a completely different kind of cultural conversation. With Peaked pairing her alongside a sharp ensemble and a director-driven vision, this is less cameo energy and more calculated immersion. If the film connects, it could position her within a more credible acting lane while expanding her cultural footprint beyond music.
