The passing of Clive Davis was devastating news for the music world. Heartbroken by the loss, his friends, colleagues, and the many artists who knew and worked with him over the decades shared heartfelt tributes in honor of the legendary music executive. Singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen, who first met Davis when he was 22 years old, said the executive changed his life.

“He treated me with the same respect and kindness as a 22-year-old nobody as he did after all my success. A great man,” he wrote on Instagram.

Patti Smith, who had also worked with Davis, expressed gratitude for the legend’s contribution to the music scene as well as for his faith in her. Rod Stewart, who was signed to J Records by Clive when the British singer-songwriter was in his 50s, recalled his push for the Great American Songbook. Barry Manilow also said an emotional goodbye to his dear friend.

“For 50 years we worked together, created together, argued together and celebrated together,” Manilow said in a statement. “Yes, some would say it was business. But to Clive, it never was. It was family. And I was honored to be a part of his.  Thank you Clive. I wish we could do it all again.”

Musician Carlos Santana, Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley, former NBA player Magic Johnson, Kenny Loggins, and many more paid their tributes. Diane Warren, who had worked with Davis, shared that the legend was like a father to her. He also accompanied her during her Oscar nominations when asked by the songwriter.
