The countdown to HBO's newest series is over, but the conversation around it is only getting started. On one hand, audiences are buzzing about what Sharon Horgan is bringing to the screen with Youth, a story about a fifty-year-old woman, ironically titled. On the other, it's the red carpet lineup that has managed to steal the spotlight.

With familiar faces and a few new ones that look like a certain very familiar face, here is the cast of HBO's Youth.

Sharon Horgan as Alex: Starring smack dab as the lead of Youth is Horgan, whose comedic prowess is no secret. Best known for creating and starring in Catastrophe and Apple TV+'s Bad Sisters. She has been nominated seven times for a BAFTA, finally winning for Catastrophe in 2016, and has been Emmy-nominated four times.

  Rupert Friend as Patrick: Best known for his performances as Peter Quinn in Homeland and George Wickham in Pride & Prejudice (2005), the actor will be taking on the character of Patrick in the series.

  Sharlene Whyte as Sam: Having played Jenny Edwards in The Story of Tracy Beaker and for her role as Doreen Lawrence in the 2021 miniseries Stephen, the actress is known to be quite a show-stealer.

Aran Murphy as Ruari: Perhaps the cast member that had everybody taking a second look was Aran Murphy, evidently the son of Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. This would not be Murphy's first rodeo in front of the camera having already worked in Lola (2022) and in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun.

  Robbie Gee as Frank: Gee is a British character actor best known for playing Lee Stanley in the sitcom Desmond's, and for roles in Guy Ritchie's Snatch and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise where he played the role of Shrimper.

A cast this stacked needs a story to match, and Youth delivers one that's equal parts messy, funny, and painfully relatable.

With Sharon Horgan not just fronting the show but also steering it through her own writing, it's clear where Youth is headed. The title is already dripping with irony, the story follows a fifty-year-old woman juggling her ailing parents, and a stalled love life.

While the two factors above already act as an obstacle, Horgan's character, Alex, also has a grown-up son, which puts the icing on top of her situation. With all the ingredients for a comedic disaster that ensures streaming records all set and ready, audiences just have to tune in on September 20 to witness the premiere of HBO's Youth.
