Werewolf By Night emerged as Marvel Studios' surprise horror standalone in 2022, delivering a gothic, black-and-white monster tale that gave the MCU an entirely different texture. Gael García Bernal brought warmth and menace to Jack Russell, while Michael Giacchino crafted a 54-minute special inspired by classic horror cinema.

The experiment connected strongly with critics, earning a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet Marvel has never officially announced a follow-up.

Now Bernal has broken his silence, asking fans to make their voices heard if they want Jack Russell, Ted and this corner of the MCU to return.

Gael García  Bernal addressed the possibility of returning as Jack Russell during a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything session. A fan praised Werewolf By Night and asked about seeing the characters again. Bernal responded with unusually direct encouragement, writing.

“I urge you to do whatever you can, whatever is in your power, to push Marvel into some sense of responsibility and also of ambition.”

His words suggest frustration with Marvel's apparent lack of follow-through on projects that don't fit their traditional superhero mold, despite critical and audience success. The actor emphasized that the studio owes it to fans and creators to explore diverse genres within the MCU framework. The Werewolf By Night star expressed genuine enthusiasm for returning to the project, telling Reddit users.

"It was for me a wonderful project to do, I loved doing it, I had so much fun experiencing that, and for me it was only a taste." He revealed that the creative team had "many plans" for expanding Jack Russell's story and the monster-hunting corner of the MCU, expressing hope that these ideas might eventually materialize.

Bernal's plea arrives as Marvel continues expanding its television slate, raising fresh questions about which corners of the MCU deserve another night in the spotlight.

Marvel has several television projects moving forward, including VisionQuest, which premieres on Disney+ on October 14, 2026. The series follows Vision as he searches for meaning while confronting his past and the presence of Ultron within his programming.

Meanwhile, Wonder Man provides a recent example of how quickly Marvel's plans can change. Disney initially renewed the Yahya Abdul-Mateen II series for a second season, but reversed that decision in July. It was reported that a writers' room for Season 2 had never opened, and it was later confirmed that the series would not return despite its renewal. 

That context makes Bernal's comments especially interesting. He is not simply asking Marvel to resurrect an abandoned character. He is pointing toward ideas that he says were already being developed around Jack, Ted and the supernatural mythology introduced in Werewolf By Night. Marvel has also published further Jack Russell stories since the special, giving the character an established comic foundation for future adventures.
