Josh Brolin is already “super angry” about Dune: Part Three, and he has not even watched the highly anticipated sequel yet. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films have transformed Frank Herbert’s sprawling science-fiction saga into one of Hollywood’s biggest cinematic spectacles. With familiar faces returning and the fate of Arrakis hanging in the balance, fans are eager to discover what Villeneuve has planned for his trilogy’s conclusion.

However, Brolin, who has been part of the franchise since the first film, has a rather personal reason to be invested in the upcoming sequel.

During his conversation with Collider while promoting Whalefall, Josh Brolin was asked whether he had seen Dune: Part Three, after Steve Weintraub mentioned hearing from someone who had supposedly watched a cut and “f****** loved it.”

Brolin admitted that he had not seen the film yet, but what he had heard was apparently enough to get under his skin.

“I believed I was the lead,” he said, before revealing that he had heard otherwise. “And I’m pissed. I’m super angry about it.”

Weintraub then responded with a tongue-in-cheek hope that audiences would enjoy the movie “sort of,” matching Brolin’s mock outrage with a little playful shade of his own.

Brolin reprises his role as Gurney Halleck, the loyal Atreides warrior and mentor who has been a recurring presence throughout the franchise. While his comments were clearly delivered with humor, they have left fans wondering how prominent Gurney will be in the next chapter.

But Brolin’s playful frustration aside, Villeneuve has already hinted that the third film will take the franchise in a noticeably different direction.

Denis Villeneuve promises a different kind of Dune with Part Three

In a recent interview with Empire, Denis Villeneuve explained that Dune: Part Three will retain the franchise’s core identity while embracing a different rhythm and pace. Set 17 years after Dune: Part Two, the film follows Paul Atreides as he grapples with the consequences of his rule as Emperor.

“We are back with the same characters, but this time the world has totally changed,” Villeneuve explained, describing Paul as burdened by the violence he has unleashed and searching for a way out.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be the last part in the trilogy before he moves to James Bond. Whether Gurney gets the spotlight Brolin expected remains to be seen, but the actor’s cheeky reaction has certainly added another layer of intrigue to the upcoming finale.
