Marvel’s Eternals arrived in 2021 as one of the MCU’s most ambitious cosmic epics, yet its aftermath remains largely unexplored. The film introduced ancient beings, celestial mythology, and new corners of the Marvel universe, while Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman appeared to be heading toward a supernatural storyline of his own.

Speaking with MovieWeb, Kit Harington was asked whether he expected to reprise his role as Dane Whitman. His answer was wasn't wrapped in uncertanity rather it was blunt.

“I’d love to, but I don’t think there’s any plan to. I hate to break it to you.” Harington’s comments suggest that Marvel Studios has yet to establish a concrete direction for Dane following Eternals. That uncertainty is particularly striking because the film deliberately positioned his character for a larger supernatural arc.

The actor remains enthusiastic about what could happen. Harington described to MovieWeb the Ebony Blade storyline as “a great parable of addiction,” explaining that Dane becomes increasingly corrupted as he kills with the weapon. He sees an opportunity to portray someone who begins with good intentions before gradually being consumed by darkness.

That interpretation could give Harington substantial dramatic material if Marvel eventually decides to revisit the character. Dane is caught between his ordinary life and an ancient weapon capable of transforming him, creating an internal conflict that extends beyond conventional superhero action.

Dane Whitman’s uncertain future becomes even more intriguing when the wider Eternals team is considered, especially with Avengers: Doomsday approaching.

The potential return of the Eternals remains one of the unanswered questions surrounding Avengers: Doomsday. As of August 2026, Marvel’s officially announced ensemble does not include Eternals stars such as Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, or Kumail Nanjiani. That absence does not necessarily close the door on their involvement.

Marvel has continued to keep portions of the film’s enormous cast and storyline under wraps, leaving room for additional announcements or surprises before its December 18, 2026 theatrical release. The uncertainty surrounding the Eternals also affects speculation about Dane. If the cosmic heroes return in Doomsday, the film could provide an avenue for the Black Knight storyline to continue. Their absence would leave his post-credits setup waiting for another project.

There have also been conflicting reports surrounding other potential appearances, including Spider-Man, demonstrating how difficult it remains to separate confirmed information from industry speculation. Insider reports have suggested that the Eternals could eventually return during the MCU’s next saga, although that does not establish a role in Doomsday.
