Pokémon is returning to theaters soon with some exciting new adventures. This is one of the longest-running franchises in entertainment and has amassed more than 1,000 episodes across its animated series, along with more than 20 films and even a live-action adaptation. And it seems the battles between humans and their Pokémon are not going to slow down anytime soon.

The franchise last appeared on the big screen in 2020, and now it is set to return with two new theatrical releases expected to arrive soon.

It was an exciting week for fans and trainers at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco. However, before the event wrapped up, there were multiple thrilling surprises that hinted at future projects for the animated franchise. The biggest announcement that has the entertainment world buzzing is a new animated feature-length movie titled Pokémon: Wild Card.

The event also offered fans a rare glimpse at the movie through a teaser, which hinted that it could arrive in 2027. The teaser features a Pokémon Trading Card Game player alongside Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokémon. The movie is directed by Katsuhiko Kitada, while Akemi Hayashi is handling the character designs.

Story Inc. is produced the film, with CloverWorks handling the animation. The movie comes nearly seven years after Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which was released in Japan in 2020 and arrived in the U.S. the following year. The event also revealed several other updates for fans, including the 2027 Pokémon World Championships, which are set to take place in Singapore next year.

With Pokémon: Wild Card and several other developments set for the future, fans will have plenty to look forward to in 2027.

One of the many surprises at the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco was the release of a teaser for an upcoming project, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu. A special presentation titled “Behind the Scenes with Aardman — Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu” was held at the event. The trailer revealed several details about the show, including its characters and what fans can expect from the upcoming series.

Pokémon’s Director of Original Animation, Phil Rynda, was also in attendance at the event. For those who may not be aware, the series is set to premiere in 2027 and will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+. With the new series and other exciting projects on the way, it is certainly a great time to be a Pokémon fan heading into next year.
