The years 2027 and 2029 will belong to One Piece as the beloved anime franchise plans to release the God Valley movie and the BAAD film, respectively. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has been quite busy lately, trying to put every piece together for the final stage of his epic pirate saga. And with One Piece live-action going in full swing with its seasons and a One Piece reboot already in the works at Netflix, one would assume that he would be stretched too thin to focus on a feature film of the anime.
Perhaps this is where many people go wrong, as Oda is never too swamped to surprise his fans. Now, not just one, but two One Piece movies are coming, scheduled for the foreseeable future.
One Piece franchise announces God Valley and BAAD movies
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Toei Animation officially revealed the Straw Hat Pirates' upcoming theatrical appearance at One Piece Day 2026, which was held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, Japan. One Piece formally unveiled a new two-part movie series that would start in the summer of 2027 and end in 2029. The announcement comes with a thrilling teaser attached to it.
While ONE PIECE FILM: BAAD will debut in Japanese theaters in 2029 with an unidentified plot, ONE PIECE FILM: GOD VALLEY, which adapts the flashback arc of the same name as the currently airing Elbaph Arc, will be released in the summer of 2027. The release of the new films will mark the manga's 30th anniversary in 2027 and the anime's in 2029. BAAD's title text was drawn by Oda himself.

August 2022 saw the release of ONE PIECE FILM RED, the last film in the franchise. With 1.57 million viewers in the first weekend in Japan, the film made over ¥2.25 billion (~$15 million). Among the 2022 films, it had the highest opening-weekend figures in terms of both viewership and revenue. Additionally, it soon emerged as One Piece's highest-grossing movie ever. With the announcement shared across their socials and even on YouTube, fans can definitely look forward to these new adaptations.
However, the announcement has also sparked curiosity in the minds of fans about whether the two movies are connected or not.
Is there any connection between the two films?
As of now, it is unclear whether the two new One Piece movies are actually related or just ambitious new theatrical productions intended to commemorate impending milestones for the anime series, especially with the plot of BAAD still being kept under wraps. Additionally, it is unknown whether the creative team behind One Piece Film: Red, from which these new films take their naming scheme, will be involved.

The One Piece TV series' new release format, which forgoes constant fresh weekly episodes in favor of 26 episodes every year, is probably the basis for this new theatrical distribution plan. With so many One Piece projects already in the making, One Piece Day 2026 has added yet more gems to that ever-growing list.
