The upcoming Naruto live-action adaptation is set to shine a spotlight on one of the most heartbreaking arcs involving the hero. Based on Masashi Kishimoto's manga, Naruto became one of the world's most beloved anime because of its jaw-dropping battles and grueling training arcs. But there is more to the series than just flashy jutsu.

While the live-action movie will bring the action fans, it will also keep its focus on the emotional foundation that made Naruto a global phenomenon in the first place.

Naruto live-action adaptation director Destin Daniel Cretton spoke about the movie during an interview with Rolling Stone. He hinted that the film will turn its focus on Naruto's emotional journey. It is one of the story's most crucial arcs and remained at the heart of both Masashi Kishimoto's manga and the anime, even amid its many action-packed arcs.

"Naruto's trajectory, his feelings of being an outsider, the feeling of having an ugliness or a monster or some part of you that you’re ashamed of, and then coming to realize that’s the part that makes you unique, that gives you your power," he said. 

Behind the hilarious antics and pranks of the young troublemaker, Naruto’s journey showed his loneliness and his determination to prove himself to the village. Both the manga and the anime follow Naruto as he struggles with the Nine-Tails sealed inside him, copes with isolation and rejection from his own village, and ultimately learns to accept himself. Although director Destin Daniel Cretton did not reveal many details about the live-action film, he shared during his interview with Rolling Stone that he feels a strong personal connection to Naruto, both culturally and emotionally.

While the director gave a glimpse of his vision for the adaptation, the movie is also moving forward with new developments.

A live-action adaptation of Naruto was first announced in 2015, but the project faced several hurdles over the years. However, it is finally back on track with director Destin Daniel Cretton officially attached to helm the film. Masashi Kishimoto has also expressed his excitement about Cretton leading the long-awaited Hollywood adaptation.

"Miracles are happening to me one after another. My work, Naruto, is actually becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even bigger miracle is that the film will be directed by the one and only Destin Daniel Cretton. I still cannot believe it! If so many miracles have already happened, then let us hope for even more….”

Apart from securing its director, the movie is also moving forward with production. The team is actively searching for the right actors to play the iconic and beloved characters. The road has been a long one, but the live-action adaptation finally appears to be moving in the right direction.
