What makes it extraordinarily brutal is its survival mechanics and the complex rules set by the mastermind himself. So, how does the Culling Game work?

A high-stakes national contest, the fatal Culling Game is one of the most dangerous and strategic storylines in the anime. This arc throws the protagonists into a monumental showdown fraught with death, where sorcerers and newly awakened participants are fighting for a spot.

The Culling Game can be simplified down to a supernatural battle royale where players are left no choice but to fight for their lives under a very strict rulebook. The moment a sorcerer makes their cursed technique public, they are required to take part in one of the ten colonies within 19 days from awakening, or else their cursed ability will be forcibly removed, an outcome which, in all probability, means death in combat.

In case a non-player enters a game colony, they automatically become a player, raising the stakes for anyone crossing the barrier. Players get points by killing other participants, where sorcerers are usually valued at five points and non-sorcerers at one point according to the game master’s estimate of their life's worth.

A cunning twist: the players can wager a hundred points to ask the game master to bring a new rule into effect. However, any of the suggested new rules will only be accepted if they do not change the game’s basic structure or seek to prevent the continuation of it. This gives the players the chance to create the conditions that work best for them.

One of the cruelest policies of the Culling Game is that if a player's score remains the same for 19 consecutive days, their cursed technique will be removed, which again is likely to lead to death. While these core rules precipitously appear in Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 episode 2 and the Execution movie, the player additions are yet to be revealed.

Player additions to The Culling Game rulebook

All players can see the names of other players, the present colonies, the scores, and the number of rules they have added to gain information about the rivals' positions and a strategic insight, added by Hajime Kashimo. Players are permitted to allocate their points to others without any limitation to form alliances or provide strategic point boosts, added by Hiromi Higuruma.

By spending 100 points, a player can leave the Culling Game by inviting a replacement into their colony in their stead, added by Megumi Fushiguro. Players are allowed to cross all colony borders to enter and exit freely, thus increasing their movement support on the battlefield, as added by Yorozu.

No new players will be able to enter the Culling Game after the deadline of 9:09 PM on November 18, 2018, thus sealing the player roster. The Culling Game will end when all players die except Suguru Geto, Megumi Fushiguro, and Shiori Himi. These rules were added by Kenjaku.

The responsibility for the activation of the Great Merger ritual, the critical Culling Game end transformation event, is entrusted to Megumi Fushiguro as a backup plan, added by Kenjaku’s failsafe.

Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro are swept into The Culling Game to protect Tsumiki, their allies, and uncover conspiracies while combating Kenjaku’s deadly goals, all the while dealing with ethical dilemmas and intense battles. However, the new rules make it even more intriguing.
