Anime has come a long way from being treated as a niche corner of entertainment. In recent years, its layered storytelling, emotional depth, and multidimensional characters have earned a level of appreciation that few could have predicted, and the shift has changed how fans think about the stories they love. Readers who once hoped only for the next chapter now hope to see their favourite tales brought to life in animated form. This is especially true for the webtoon The Duke is a Thug.

With webtoon-to-anime adaptations now as common as finding Tom Cruise doing an otherworldly stunt in his next movie, the question stands: Is there The Duke is a Thug anime?

The Duke is a Thug wrapped up its season one on Webtoon around February 10, 2026. The webtoon follows a woman reincarnated as Madelyn Roseheart, a baron’s daughter arranged to marry the feared Duke of the North, Torsten Icewood. The story is also available as a short-form vertical anime series on Shortcat.

While the story may not have a full-blown anime, it does have a short-form vertical anime series which at the moment stands concluded at Season 1 on indefinite hiatus. Given that the Shortcat app mostly depends on popular manhwa and manga, unless the webtoon pushes another season, the likelihood of there being another short-form anime season for The Duke is a Thug stand slim.

Ben Affleck Claims His $587M AI Deal With Netflix Means a Lot More Than Just Money

The wait for a full-length The Duke Is a Thug anime may continue, but the genre is far from short on options, and several romance anime on Netflix are ready to fill the gap.

Netflix was among the first to recognize the goldmine that was the anime world, and soon ventured into not just streaming popular anime but also creating live-action adaptations and originals, leaving it with no shortage of romance anime. One of the most popular romance anime from the bunch is Blue Box, a sports romance adapted from Kouji Miura’s hit Weekly Shonen Jump manga.

Another standout is The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, a gentle high school romance from CloverWorks. It is based on Saka Mikami’s manga, which debuted in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket in 2021 and was a finalist for the Kodansha Manga Award in the Shonen category. The first season runs for 13 episodes on Netflix. These mark just a few of the many exciting animes on Netflix. So while The Duke Is a Thug has no full-length anime for now, its short-form vertical series on Shortcat remains the only way to watch the story animated, with Netflix’s romance lineup there to fill the wait.
