Eiichiro Oda’s legendary saga is now closer than ever to that one final epic clash that will get the world of One Piece out of the shackles of the World Government forever. In order to do so, our hero Monkey D. Luffy has to defeat Imu, a task that is not as easy as it sounds. The latest chapters of the One Piece manga show how ridiculously powerful Imu is, which makes it apparent that Luffy will require some assistance from some powerhouses of One Piece if he hopes to get rid of the biggest threat to the freedom of the world once and for all.

Now, the One Piece fandom is divided on Shanks, with a certain faction believing that he might be the final boss who will face Luffy in the end and that he is the one pulling all the strings behind the scenes. While this theory seems to have been going around for a long time, the majority of the fandom still believes that Shanks is like a protector for Luffy and will have a final role to play in Luffy’s fight against Imu.

Shanks is considered to be a father figure for Luffy, so it makes sense that he be present during the toughest fight of his life. But what makes more sense is if his actual father shows up for once. 

For the entirety of One Piece so far, Eiichiro Oda has cleverly kept almost everything under wraps about Monkey D. Dragon. Apart from him being the son of the Hero of Marines Monkey D. Garp and the father of the protagonist of the story, Monkey D. Luffy, and the leader of the Revolutionary Army, we do not know much about the character. His powers, his past, and his knowledge about the history of the World Government have all been left to be explored right until the very last moment - most probably during the time he helps Luffy find Imu.

As long as we are talking about Luffy's family showing up to the fight, we cannot forget one important member.

Sabo has a deep emotional connection with Luffy, being his sworn brother along with Ace. He considers Luffy his younger brother and, by extension, his responsibility, especially after Ace’s death. Upon regaining his memory and learning of Ace’s death, Sabo vowed that he would be there for Luffy and would not let anything happen to him, as he is now his only brother left. Therefore, we can count on the fact that somewhere down the line, the brothers will be seen fighting Imu together. 

Well, there is almost no doubt that Koby will join Luffy in the final fight against Imu, as his being the first friend Luffy made at sea means that he will definitely be by Luffy’s side at the end, even though they are on opposite sides currently. Moreover, Koby has a deep admiration and respect for the man Luffy is, and even more so, he puts justice and empathy above all else - ideals that resonate with all the things Luffy stands for. Plus, Koby is to Luffy what Garp was to Gol D. Roger - rivals who deeply respected each other and shared some common values.

The right-hand man and the first mate of the former Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, Rayleigh has a huge role to play in the final war. Furthermore, he is Luffy’s mentor and one of the few characters in the verse who knows about the Void Century and the truth behind the World Government’s facade. His joining Luffy against Imu seems kind of inevitable.  

Luffy’s final fight against Imu will be unlike anything ever seen before in the almost 30 years of the story. There are a lot of characters supposed to join Luffy against Imu and the World Government, but only a handful can truly help Luffy in the fight with Imu. It will be interesting to see who among the characters mentioned above would be the ones to take on Imu alongside Luffy, as he will definitely need it in light of what happened in the recent chapter of the manga.
