2026 has treated the anime world like it personally owes fans a spectacle, delivering blockbuster sequels with barely a moment to breathe. Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 unleashed the Culling Game, while Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity kept the heavy hitters swinging. Add Re:ZERO season 4 and Mushoku Tensei season 3, and the year has been anything but sleepy. But it seems that with not one but two One Piece projects coming up and many anticipated series making their way in 2027, the year might as well go down in history.

Yet, even with 2026 still showing off, 2027 anime releases already look ready to reach for the crown, turning next year into anime’s potential year of reckoning.

2027 is apparently not content with giving One Piece fans one big release and calling it a day. The One Piece remake arrives in February, Netflix’s live-action Season 3 follows, and One Piece Film: God Valley sails into Japanese theaters that summer. That is quite the pirate-heavy year.

The sheer variety makes the schedule even more delicious: Wit Studio is reimagining the opening chapters, the live-action adventure heads toward Alabasta, and Toei Animation brings the God Valley story to the big screen. Three different takes, one enormous franchise, and enough One Piece to keep the Grand Line busy all year.

If 2026 made Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End look like anime royalty, 2027 is already preparing another coronation. Season 3 arrives in October 2027, with Studio Madhouse returning to adapt the acclaimed Golden Land Arc from Chapter 81 onward. That alone would be exciting, but the arc brings Macht of the Golden Land, whose magic can turn entire cities into gold.

The new season also digs deeper into the uneasy history between humans and demons, with Denken’s homeland at the heart of the story. After Season 2 left fans wanting more, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 3 has the perfect combination of prestige animation, dangerous magic, and seriously weighty fantasy drama.

If Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Part 1 was any indication, 2027 could have another theatrical anime event waiting in the wings. Part 2 is widely expected to arrive in 2027, continuing Ufotable’s ambitious trilogy with the Demon Slayer Corps plunging deeper into the fortress and facing terrifying threats such as Doma and Kokushibo. After the first film’s staggering $778 million-plus global haul, the sequel has an enormous standard to match, making its eventual arrival one of 2027’s most anticipated anime spectacles.

Delicious in Dungeon season 2 is bringing its wonderfully peculiar recipe back to Netflix in October 2027, with Studio TRIGGER once again handling the animation. This time, however, the dungeon menu comes with considerably higher stakes, as the party ventures deeper into its lower levels and the story trades some of its lighter survival comedy for richer lore, stranger monsters, and more strategic battles.

Chainsaw Man – Assassins Arc is giving 2027 another particularly nasty reason to be excited, with Studio MAPPA targeting a late-year release for the International Assassins Arc. Following the Reze Arc movie, the story sends Denji from devil hunter to international target, as elite killers from China, the US, and Russia come hunting for his heart. The result is a much bigger, bloodier escalation for Tatsuki Fujimoto’s wonderfully unhinged saga.

Sakamoto Days season 2 is kicking off 2027 with plenty of bullets flying, premiering globally on Netflix in January. Taro Sakamoto and Shin go undercover inside the elite JCC academy to expose X, while Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi face their own bloody confrontation in Kyoto. Beneath the assassin mayhem, the season also digs into the fractured history connecting Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion, and Slur, giving the chaos considerably more emotional weight.  

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 is wasting no time making 2027 look dangerous, with the continuation of the Culling Game projected for around January. After Season 3 concluded in March 2026, Studio MAPPA has another brutal round waiting for Yuji Itadori, Yuta Okkotsu, and Megumi Fushiguro, as the battle royale grows even deadlier. The extra production runway could also give the studio room to preserve the spectacular animation standards the series demands.

Lord of the Mysteries Season 2: Faceless is bringing considerably more ambition to 2027, with B.CMay Pictures expanding the Chinese animation into a sprawling 30-to-40-episode split-cour season. Adapting Volume 2, the story follows Klein Moretti in Backlund under his detective alias Sherlock Moriarty, blending Victorian steampunk atmosphere with slow-burning fantasy and cosmic horror. After Season 1’s 13 episodes, that expanded runtime promises a much richer and less hurried journey.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Part 2 is saving some of its biggest punches for 2027, when J.C. Staff returns for the climactic stretch of the Monster Association Arc. The upcoming cour is set to build toward the long-awaited Saitama versus Garou showdown, adapting some of the manga’s most explosive material. After Part 1 drew criticism for its visuals and pacing, the extended gap gives this next batch plenty of pressure to land every punch.

Blue Lock: Neo Egoist League is taking the competition out of the training facility and throwing Yoichi Isagi into a much bigger footballing arena, with its season 3 anticipated around early 2027. The arc pairs Japan’s rising strikers with elite international clubs and world-class masters, while formidable talents such as Michael Kaiser raise the difficulty considerably.

Haikyu!! is serving volleyball fans a particularly generous 2027, with Production I.G bringing not one but two animated projects to the court. Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant continues from The Dumpster Battle with Karasuno High facing Kamomedai High, while Where Monsters Go spotlights Fukurodani Academy against Mujinazaka High. Together, they push the Spring High story beyond Karasuno and deeper into the tournament’s fiercest rivalries.

The Apothecary Diaries season 3 part 2 is bringing Maomao back to the imperial palace in April 2027, with the split-cour continuation raising the stakes far beyond her usual medical mysteries. Empire-wide threats, political upheaval, and revelations surrounding Jinshi’s true identity promise a considerably messier case file. After Season 3 Part 1 and the franchise’s first theatrical film, 2027 keeps the momentum wonderfully alive.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run may be stretching its journey beyond 2027, but that only makes its presence on the anime calendar more deliciously persistent. After its 47-minute Netflix premiere in March 2026, the adaptation is unfolding across multiple stages, with its broader rollout expected to continue into 2028. Set in 1890, the rebooted timeline follows Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppeli through a brutal transcontinental horse race, giving the franchise a strikingly fresh chapter.  

Kagurabachi is making the leap from internet punchline to genuine shonen contender in April 2027, when Studio Cypic brings Takeru Hokazono’s dark manga to television. The anticipation is already enormous, with its teaser trailer reportedly crossing 6 million views in 24 hours. With Chihiro Rokuhira leading the charge, this could be 2027’s freshest new-generation anime heavyweight.

Solo Leveling is not exactly planning a quiet 2027, with a potential theatrical film, Beyond the System, potentially leading the franchise into its next major chapter. The Crunchyroll and A-1 Pictures project is officially in production, while financial projections place Season 3 around 2027–2028, and Netflix is developing a separate live-action adaptation. If that schedule holds, Sung Jinwoo could be having a very busy year indeed.  

Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 3 is flexing its way into January 2027, with A-1 Pictures adapting the Tri-Magicathlon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc. Mash Burnedead faces tougher trials and formidable rivals such as Domina Blowelive, all while pursuing the impossible goal of becoming a Divine Visionary without magic. With the season pushing Mash closer to his ultimate showdown, 2027 is clearly not running short on anime ammunition. And with even a Batman anime possibly joining the 2027 lineup, the sheer variety of upcoming releases makes the year look increasingly like anime’s potential crown jewel.
