“They’re underwater” – The Internet Destroys Netflix-CEO Ted Sarandos for His Peculiar “Pro-profit” Stand With Streaming

If you ever wonder why Netflix is not starting live-streaming sports, Ted Sarandos has the answer. The streaming channel was first founded in 1997 and became a hit thanks to certain originals like Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Dark, Ozark, and Stranger Things. The pandemic boom only helped the platform turn into a streaming giant.

But the World Cup season has had people wondering why Netflix has not tried to keep up with competitors by offering live streaming yet. Its co-CEO gave one possible reason for it, but fans have now started trolling him for his pro-profit statement.

What do fans feel about Netflix dodging the idea of sports lives streaming?

With the World Cup season on, a few streaming channels that telecast it are leading in the viewer competition. But Netflix has somehow strayed away from it. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos stated the reason behind it. MorningBrews’ posted a statement by Ted Sarandos about Netflix, “We’re not anti-sports, we are pro-profit.”

He described the idea of streaming sports as a ‘loss profit,’ but viewers do not seem too excited about the idea. People have been making fun of his response in the comments, stating how the channel is already suffering losses. Netflix has been suffering the loss of a lot of paid subscribers post-pandemic.

In April 2022, there were reports of at least 200,000 accounts being lost by the streaming platform. At the same time, one fan pointed out how live-streaming sports is why Hulu gained subscribers.

However, some people are also defending Sarandos’ choice of sticking to shows, as sports streaming can be an expensive affair for channels. While some are also admiring him for being straight about his capitalistic ideas.

In order to attract more paid viewers, the platform came up with an ad-based subscription, but its success is yet to be tested.
