Meghan Markle Was Never a Part of the Royal Family’s Easter Celebrations Because of This Reason

As Meghan Markle, a woman of color and a rising star in Hollywood, was reported to be dating Prince Harry back in 2016, many understandably deemed the news as faux. It was only when Prince Harry and even Prince William released a statement in her favor and she became a part of the royal occasions that it truly began to sink in. Soon enough, the actress was engaged to Prince Harry in 2017. Despite being consistently present at royal outings and celebrations, there is one celebration that she could not attend.

While Meghan Markle famously broke tradition by becoming a plus-one for Prince Harry even before she was engaged to him, there were still limitations. The Duchess of Sussex, despite spending almost half a decade in the United Kingdom, never had a chance to be a part of the royal family’s Easter celebrations.
Why was Meghan Markle not included in the Easter celebrations of the royal family?

Be it Christmas Eve, birthdays, or new year’s, the royal family pictures without a doubt would consist of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry before they moved to California. However, if you pay closer attention, you will find that not a single Easter celebration was attended by Meghan Markle. This added to the fact that she lived in Frogmore Cottage just a few miles away from St. George’s Chapel, smells like a perfect ingredient for drama. However, she could not be a part of the family’s Easter celebrations because of personal reasons every year. The first year they decided to skip and the years that followed Markle fell victim to circumstances.

Easter in 2019 fell in April when the Duchess of Sussex was pregnant with Prince Archie. And when 2020 rolled in, the couple announced that they will be stepping down as senior royal members. This was around the same time when the royal family itself could not gather for Easter celebrations owing to Covid-19.

Is the Duchess of Sussex not considered royalty?
When a foreigner took on the role of the Duchess, it was a hard pill to swallow for Londonites. And also the entirety of Britain, as they witnessed the first biracial entry in a long time.

Despite having signed off from royal duties, Meghan Markle undoubtedly still holds the title. What can be argued, however, is whether she has a semblance of a people’s princess.
