Reynolds’ father passed away in the year 2015, after a 20-year-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. It was a disheartening day for the Deadpool star and he took to Twitter, now X, to pay tribute to his late father. Earlier that year, Reynolds and Lively welcomed their first child to the world and gave her a name that was deemed unusual for a girl. During a 2016 appearance on the British Breakfast Television show, Good Morning Britain, the actor revealed the reason behind naming his baby-girl as James.

When Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway asked the Free Guy actor about his child’s name, the actor revealed that “We named her after my father”. There was a lot of chatter floating online regarding James’ name, which was in honor of James Chester Reynolds. Since the world is already brimming with a bunch of unusual names, the actor said, “We’re not really breaking any new ground here“. Being his usual self, the actor threw in a bit of humor, saying, “It’s not like Summer Squash Meadow Lark or something”.
