Royal biographer Omid Scobie, also a friend of Meghan Markle, detailed the day of Queen Elizabeth’s passing in his new book, Endgame. As per the excerpts released by People, Scobie revealed that the Sussexes were not notified that the royals were already preparing to bid farewell to the monarch until he received a call from his father. King Charles allegedly asked Prince Harry to come alone, without his wife, as per the “protocols”. Prince Harry reluctantly agreed to the term after King Charles assured him that Kate Middleton would not be present either.

Scobie, however, revealed that Kate Middleton personally made the decision not to attend the Queen’s last moments, as she had to pick her children up from their school. This also suggested that there were indeed no “protocols”, and “they just didn’t want Meghan there.” However, Prince William and Kate Middleton soon tried to make amends with Meghan Markel following her royal snub.
The Wales extended an olive branch to the Sussexes by personally inviting them to attend the funeral events. However, the lingering bitterness between them remained, and they reportedly found it “very difficult” to be around each other.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince William, and Kate Middleton arrived together at Windsor Castle to view the tributes. This was their first public appearance together since the 2020 Commonwealth Day. Though Prince William extended the olive branch, as per sources, it was Kate Middleton’s idea. Middleton did not want to harbor any “regrets” in the future. Despite the efforts, they could mend their fences and the day was very difficult for both couples behind the scenes.

Even a source confirmed to People that it was equally “difficult” for Meghan Markle considering the things that were “being said out there.” The relationship between the Sussex and the royal family shows no signs of reconciliation.
