The era of comic book adaptations into movies and television series brought immense joy to fans worldwide. Seeing their beloved characters come to life on the big screen was a surreal experience. Superman and Batman became iconic figures in the hearts of millions. Superman’s journey began in a 17-part animated series of shorts, and over the years, it evolved, culminating in Cavill’s portrayal in Man of Steel in 2013. However, to the utter dismay of fans, none of Cavill’s Superman stints earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 greatest superhero movies.

As the farewell season of Cavill as Geralt takes off, fans were hit with another blow as his final appearance as Superman came in a mere cameo in Black Adam. His exclusion from James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy was certainly not what fans had hoped for. While other superhero movies like Black Panther, Spider-Man 2, Logan, and Avengers: Endgame soared to the top, Cavill’s Superman movies were conspicuously absent from the list. Interestingly, the Superman films, from 1978 and 1980, starring Christopher Reeve, did manage to secure a spot among the best.
This has undoubtedly been a major setback, but what led to Cavill being cast and dropped from Superman: Legacy?

According to Gunn himself, Cavill was never considered for the role in Superman: Legacy. With his cameo in Black Adam marking the end of his journey as Clark Kent, Cavill’s story with Superman seems to have reached its conclusion. However, Flash director has his own plans for another Superman film with Cavill. The silver lining also lies in Gunn’s admission that he might rope in Cavill for another exciting DC character.
