Wrexham’s National League run in 2022 is anything but ordinary. Perhaps one of the most dramatic seasons for the Red Dragons, 2022-23, was a huge year for the team. After almost 20 years, Wrexham achieved their promotion to the Second Division. While the team surely did an incredible job, no one deserves more credit than Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Hollywood duo left no stone unturned in helping the team reach where it is today. And recently, on Wrexham’s last outing during their pre-season friendlies, fans witnessed an incredible moment that will leave you in awe.
Reynolds and McElhenney’s contribution to Wrexham’s success has been immense. Apart from spending a huge amount of money on the team, the duo has also united fans from around the world. Recently, the Red Dragons concluded their pre-season friendlies in the US, which took place in Philadelphia, McElhenney’s hometown. While around this time most Americans are usually eager to see the Premier League giants play, this year was something different. Almost 3000 miles away from Wrexham, Philadelphia saw a sea of fans wearing the Wrexham jersey and cheering for their team.
Suffice to say, it was an incredible moment to witness fans from both communities bond over their favorite teams. Moreover, it was almost difficult for anyone to tell apart from the Welsh and the American fans, both equally excited to see the Red Dragons in action.
What makes it even more special is the fact that almost none of the second-division teams have experienced anything like it in their own country, let alone in America. But the fan enthusiasm match perfectly with the Red Dragons’ performance in these matches.
